Hout Bay sardine run
Although it started earlier in the week, the "Hout Bay sardine run" was at its peak from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 November, when a huge school of sardines was trapped in Hout Bay, and heavily attacked by gulls and seals. On the beach it was a free-for-all, with everybody catching whatever they could.

Juvenile lionfish in False Bay!
On the ascent from a dive to Rockeater in Smitswinkel bay, SURG member Georgina Jones came across this juvenile lionfish!

Purple lady nudibranch at Oudekraal.
Previously only known from Cape Point and further east, this species has now been sighted at Oudekraal.

Horsefish in the shallows at Long Beach
While waiting for a charter pickup and trying to stay cool this horsefish was noticed nearly beached at Long Beach - a rather unusual place for this fish to be!

Blaasop beauty
Niel Falck spotted two of these pretty puffers at Struisbay. It is only known to occur as far south as Durban.

Ornate klipfish found again
This is a rather rare klipfish, which SURG member Guido Zsilavecz has been searching for, having photographed it only once. This one was seen by Carel van der Colff at Photographers Reef, Simon's Town.

Sunfish washed up on beach.
Dieter Stegemann found this slender sunfish washed up on Blouberg beach, one of many reported from around Cape Town in February.

Caristius groenlandicus seen again!
In 2004 this fish was seen at Oudekraal. It is an offshore species not normally seen inshore. It has now been seen again at North Paw, offshore from Clifton.

Night-light jellyfish at Oudekraal
In late December 2010 strong south easters failed to bring in the very clear, but cold, waters normally expected with such winds, but it did bring in a great number of the usually more pelagic night-light jellyfish - and they did not seem to be so pleased to be that close inshore..,

Flabellina sp.1 resighted at Oudekraal
Seen first in December 2009, this rare species was sighted again in a different location at Oudekraal.
